About our campout
“We as a company wanted to find a way to give back to our community and provide sustainability for the camping world. Since we’re based in Los Angeles, we thought why don’t we take under privileged families from our local community camping? We can provide these kids a way to connect with their parents and nature and disconnect from their devices at the same time.”
~ Robert Lafferty
In 2016 we got involved with the LAPD PALS program through Devonshire and had a very positive experience. PALS is an afterschool student mentor program that takes at risk youth and helps to keep them off the streets and productive through after school programs. We went back to Lake Castaic again and also worked with the CSUN Aquatic Center again. With this group of kids and expanded even more on what we could do with outdoor activities and water sports. We also found a new partner in SOS Survival Products, who were very helpful in planning out our activities and providing lunch for everyone involved.
With the launch of our campout in 2014 we knew that things could only get better. We teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita and moved the campout location to its new home in Lake Castaic, CA. Being at Lake Castaic we were also able to get involved with the CSUN Aquatic Center, which really helped to take the campout to a new level. Through the aquatic center the kids were able to do safety training with their lifeguards, and then dive into a number of water sports. In addition to the water activities, we had an arts and crafts area, organized hikes and a campfire for s’mores, singing and skits that truly made camping fun for these families.
In 2014 we as a company decided that we wanted to get involved with some type of charity, or get behind a cause that would help get young kids exposed to camping. After talking with a few different organizations we felt that the best way to directly know where our money was going and to assure that the kids involved would be benefiting the most would be to host a campout of our own. We got involved with the Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley and held our first annual campout at Corriganville Park in Simi Valley, CA.
